If I could pass on one bit of advice for any mama farmer out there it would be to expand opportunity far and wide around you. What we farmwives are doing is bigger than what we could ever accomplish on our own. It’s different and expansive compared to the roles many of us were prepared for. Allow the circle of goodness that flows from farm life to bless others. Do what you do well and invite others to trade their gifts and skills for the resources you produce. Thankful today for consultants, dietitians, designers, tutors, editors and cooks who help me make my ideas possible.
When I pass on opportunity to others I make room to care for myself and my family in more tangible ways. It’s always worth the loss of control and financial commitment. It’s been the very thing that’s taught me that I can’t do it all for everyone, be everything my family needs. My family is better because of all the people who spend time here serving us well and often.
